Frame & Body Mount Bushings

Body mount bushings — frame body mounts, or cab mounts on a truck — are elastic pucks carrying the body on the frame of an SUV, pickup or van. PolyPro molds polyurethane body mounts for 4×4s and commercial rigs. Browse the polyurethane parts catalog and polyurethane parts for trucks.

What Body Mount Bushings Do

The body is not welded to the frame: it rides on elastic mounts along both rails in left/right pairs. Point count depends on rail length and body type: a short 4×4 uses fewer than a long van or cab-and-platform truck. Each point takes upper and lower bushings clamping the body bracket, a crush sleeve between them and a long bolt. The sleeve sets clamped height so the bolt cannot squash the bushing; the bolt works in tension, while side loads pass through the bushing shoulder.

They do three jobs: decouple body from frame, so frame twist never reaches rockers and doors; damp impact and structure-borne noise with the engine and transmission mounts; and hold ride height — a collapsed mount drops one corner and panel gaps drift.

Bad Body Mount Bushing Symptoms

Body mounts outlast most suspension parts and get attention only after the thumping starts. On a lift the bushing should fill the gap between bracket and rail with nothing squeezed out; measure to confirm — compare rail-to-bracket height across left/right pairs, and a few millimeters between sides means the mount has collapsed.

Signs It Is Time to Replace Body Mounts

  • a dull thud or body slam over bumps and on take-off;
  • creaking from under the floor over ramps and curbs;
  • uneven door and hood gaps, doors catching;
  • body movement relative to the frame under load;
  • crumbled rubber, a bare gap at the rail;
  • a stretched bolt, rusted crush sleeve, elongated hole;
  • new body vibration at highway speed.

Check the metal too: the mounting pocket traps water and salt, so the rail pad often rots before the bushing itself. Because body noise is easy to blame on the suspension, inspect the leaf spring bushings while the vehicle is already on the lift.

Replace one point at a time, raising the body just enough to free the bushing. Clean the pad to bare metal, fit a sound crush sleeve and torque the bolt to spec: under-torque elongates the hole, over-torque squeezes the bushing out and strips the thread.

Polyurethane vs Rubber Body Mounts

The factory mount is rubber, and rubber has a shelf life: it hardens, cracks and crumbles, and salt and water speed that up. A body-on-frame rig either twists its frame off-road or carries weight, so the mount lives under compression and shear.

Polyurethane wins on three counts. It ignores age and road chemicals — salt, oil, water and cold. It takes almost no compression set: it squats under body weight and returns to size, where rubber stays sagged and takes door and hood gaps with it. It runs 100,000–150,000 km, three to five times a rubber part. The trade-off: a firmer mount passes a little more vibration on bad pavement.

How to Choose Body Mount Bushings

By Size and Vehicle

Body mounts are not universal: front, middle and rear points differ in height and diameter, and upper rarely matches lower. Order by outer diameter, inner diameter for the sleeve, height and position number.

Measure the old part or send photos. Filter by vehicle type and position; check that sleeve and bolt are included.

By Durometer

Standard durometer suits a street-driven SUV: near-stock comfort, polyurethane life. Firm is for loaded pickups, rigs with a canopy, winch or steel bumper, and vans at full payload.

Firm mounts keep the body from shifting on the frame under load, but pass more noise into the cabin. Durometer is on each product page.

Why Buy Body Mount Bushings from PolyPro — Wholesale and Retail

PolyPro is the manufacturer: polyurethane is cast on our own equipment, so we control compound and geometry. On older trucks OE mounts are often discontinued or sold only as an assembly. We sell single pieces, pairs and full sets — retail from one piece, wholesale for shops and fleets via our partner program — and mold custom parts to a drawing, sample or worn mount (custom polyurethane parts). Warranty included. Send photos and three dimensions and we confirm fit.

Frequently asked questions

What is a body mount bushing?

It is the elastic puck between the frame rail and the body or cab of a body-on-frame vehicle. It decouples body from frame so frame twist does not reach the doors and rockers, damps impacts and driveline noise, and holds the body at its designed height at that mounting point. Also called a frame body mount or cab mount.

What are the symptoms of bad body mount bushings?

A dull thud or body slam over bumps and on take-off, creaking from under the floor when the chassis flexes, uneven door and hood gaps, and doors that start catching. Confirm from below: crumbled or squeezed-out rubber, a bare gap between body bracket and rail, a stretched bolt or a rusted crush sleeve.

How many body mounts does a truck have, and should all be replaced at once?

The body sits on several mounting points spread along both frame rails, in left/right pairs; the longer the rails, the more points. Replacing as a set is the better buy: once one mount collapses the rest are the same age and close behind, and a new mount next to a sagged one carries load at an angle. At minimum, always replace a symmetrical left/right pair.

Do I need new bolts and crush sleeves with the bushings?

Replace the bolt if it is stretched, corroded or has damaged threads — it is a tension fastener and a wear item. Check the crush sleeve too: a rusted or collapsed sleeve will not hold clamped height and will destroy the new bushing. Apply heat and penetrating oil before removing seized hardware, and torque the new mount to the manufacturer's spec.

How long do polyurethane body mount bushings last?

Around 100,000 to 150,000 km, three to five times a rubber mount. Polyurethane resists salt, water, oil and cold, does not crumble with age and does not sag under body weight, so panel gaps and door alignment stay as set. PolyPro parts are covered by warranty.

Can I order body mount bushings one at a time instead of a full set?

Yes. Single pieces, pairs and complete sets are all sold at retail, so you can change one crushed mount or redo every position on the frame in one order. If the size you need is not in stock, a mount molded from a drawing, a sample or your worn part is made from one piece up.

Do you supply body mounts wholesale to parts stores and fleets?

Wholesale is set up for repair shops, parts stores, fleets and resellers, and it runs through the partner program: bonuses for turnover or for the size of a single order, access to prices, stock balances and shipping dates, and shipment under the partner's own brand when needed.
