A driveshaft flex disc is the flexible coupling that bolts between the transmission flange and the driveshaft, passing torque while absorbing driveline shock. Mechanics also call it a guibo, a giubo, or simply a rubber donut. This category covers polyurethane flex discs for cars, vans, trucks and farm machinery, cast at our plant in Ukraine. A flex disc is an elastic body with steel sleeves molded inside it. Bolts run through those sleeves, alternating between the gearbox flange and the driveshaft flange, so torque never crosses a rigid joint. Instead it travels through an element that twists a few degrees under load, letting the car launch and shift without a bang in the driveline. The disc also absorbs the misalignment that appears as the chassis flexes and the mounts settle, and it blocks the path shaft noise takes into the cabin. On two-piece shafts it works with the center support bearing, and on rear-drive cars with the differential mount, so polyurethane differential mounts and flex discs usually reach replacement mileage together.
Flex discs fail gradually: first a light vibration under acceleration, then a hard thump on take-off. On a lift, twist the driveshaft by hand — free play should be minimal and the body must not be delaminating. Once the steel has chewed the bolt holes oval, retorquing will not save the part. While the shaft is out, inspect the driveshaft center support bearing too — it causes the same vibration at speed and is best done in the same job.
A factory flex disc is cord-reinforced rubber bonded to steel sleeves. It works in tension, compression and torsion at once, in the worst environment rubber can face: exhaust heat, road salt, and gear oil from a weeping output seal. The rubber swells, loses elasticity and tears through the webs between the sleeves. Polyurethane does not swell in oil or fuel, ignores salt and cold, and does not age from ozone or crack from sitting. It lasts roughly 3 to 5 times longer and does not stretch: bolt holes stay round, flanges stay tight, and the shaft cannot move axially and hammer the center support bearing. The trade-off is a firmer feel, since the disc twists less.
Flex discs are selected by flange geometry and durometer — part numbers help less than expected, since one model often used several coupling sizes.
Four dimensions do the job: outside diameter, bolt circle diameter, body thickness and hole count — usually three, four or six. Check sleeve bore and bolt size too. Demand is strongest on rear-wheel-drive sedans, body-on-frame SUVs, vans and tractors; the vehicle-type filter in the catalog narrows the range to your make and model. Standard durometer suits most passenger cars: comfort close to rubber, with the life of polyurethane. The firm grade is for higher torque and harder use — trucks, vans, tow vehicles, off-road builds and modified engines. It resists hole elongation longer but passes more shock into the body, so the hardest disc is rarely worth it on a street car. Shore hardness is listed on each product page. A firm coupling also sends load further down the driveline: check the U-joints and transmission mount before fitting one.

Vibration through the floor between roughly 40 and 65 mph, a dull thump on take-off and when lifting off the throttle, visible cracks or delamination in the disc, and bolt holes worn oval. On a lift, twist the driveshaft by hand: excessive free play at the coupling confirms it.
Getting to a shop is usually fine; driving on it for weeks is not. A failing disc lets the shaft run out of true, which quickly kills the center support bearing, the U-joints and the gearbox output seal. If the body tears completely, the driveshaft can drop while you are moving.
On a two-piece driveshaft, yes. Both parts damp shaft movement, wear at a similar rate and produce the same vibration at speed, and the shaft has to come out either way. Doing them together saves a second round of labor on the same job.
About 3 to 5 times longer than a rubber one. Polyurethane does not swell in oil, shrugs off road salt and freezing temperatures, and does not crack with age or ozone exposure. Just as important, the bolt holes stay round for the life of the part, so the flanges do not work loose.

A single coupling for your own car is a normal order, and the same holds for custom work: a disc made from a drawing, a sample or your worn part can be produced as a one-off.
